What do I need to run New World Studio ?
You need a computer or a server. If you are running Windows XP and later, you will need to install the .NET Framework before. If you are running Mac or Linux or other platforms, you will need to install Mono before.

How hard is it to setup New World Studio ?
New World Studio has been designed to make your life easier and setup faster. Anyway, OpenSimulator, the software behind New World Studio is complex and needs a minimum performance and network requirements. The easiness will depend on your hardware, software, and many other factors that may vary most of the time. Having a region or more at home requires tons of patience, and sometimes a bit of comprehension of how things work. Though, we are happy to guide and help everyone.
What Operating System will run New World Studio software ?
Windows, Linux and Mac should run it fine. New World Studio and specifically OpenSimulator, the software behind it, requires the .NET Framework or Mono to run. New World Studio will then run on any platform supporting both frameworks.
Will it run on 64 bits Operating Systems ?
Yes. Though OpenSimulator, the software behind New World Studio, will run under 64 bits environments, it may not run perfectly because OpenSimulator is not optimized for 64 bit.
What are the minimum system requirements ?
There is not really any minimum system requirement as far as it depends on your processor and RAM and your internet connection bandwidth, but also on how many regions you will run, how many prims, how much memory will require the textures and the scripts… Generally, OpenSimulator will run with a minimum of 512 Mo of memory. In any case, you may not run on a computer using Wifi which can give longest response times with the grid. This can prevent you or your visitors to teleport to your regions, causing timeouts.
What are the recommended system requirements ?
We generally recommend a minimum of 1 Go of RAM, a recent processor and a minimum of 512 kB/sec of upload bandwidth. Again, your ability to run well will depend on many factors which makes diagnosis sometimes difficult to establish on home internet connections.
Will New World Studio work behind a firewall ?
Yes. New World Studio is designed to configure Windows Firewall automatically. Anyway, if you have another firewall software you will need to open the following ports manually for the TCP and UDP protocols : 9000, and as many ports above as you run regions. For example, if you run 3 regions, you will need to open the 9000 port but also, the 9001, 9002, 9003 ports.
Will New World Studio run with my anti-virus ?
Yes. It should work though some anti-viruses may block or at least ask if you wish to unblock New World Studio.
Will New World Studio work with my router ?
Yes. Routers act as a firewall and protect your local network against unlegitimate access from the internet. Either way, it is always possible to configure it manually if needed.
Do I have to configure my router ?
Some routers are UPnP capable. The UPnP technology allows New World Studio to configure your router automatically if UPnP is enabled on your router. Else, you would have to enable UPnP manually in your router configuration or forward your ports manually.
What kind of internet connection do I need ?
You need a good internet connection. Even if you have a 8 Mbps connection, you must have a look to your upload bandwidth which is generally limited. Your ability to run New World Studio correctly will depend on your upload bandwidth.
Why New World Studio does not work or why can’t I teleport to my regions ?
It happens sometimes that New World Studio regions cannot register to the grid anymore. Possible causes are :
What happens if my computer shuts down when I’m running New World Studio ?
The changes you made recently may disappear or it may bug your intallation. You may always use the “Shutdown” button and wait until the New World Studio windows close before shuting down your computer.
Do I lose my region content if I don’t run New World Studio ?
No. Your content is stored locally on your computer when you shutdown your regions.
Where do I register my regions ?
You can register a region on the web map.
How do I backup my regions ?
You must use the “Backup” button on the New World Studio user interface, then choose a folder location to save the terrain file (F32 file) and the primitive content file (XML or XML2 file).
Restoring is as easy as backup, just use the the “Restore” button on the interface then select the folder containing your backup files.
How much does it cost to host a sim or a region on my computer ?
Hosting a region on your computer is free.
Does the Second Life viewer work on New World Grid ?
Yes, it works but requires a change in the SecondLife.exe command line parameters.
Do I have to have a server to run New World Studio ?
No, you can run New World Studio at home on your computer.
Are there updates for New World Grid / New World Studio ?
Yes there are updates. We generally update the whole grid servers once we are sure to have a stable enough release.
Can I run New World Studio only when I am online and not 24/7 ?
Yes, you can put your region online or offline whenever you wish : just launch New World Studio or click the “Shutdown” button. Anyway, leaving your region online allow to make other people visit your region when you are away.
Do I lose my spot when my region is offline ?
No, when you reserve your region on the web map, you reserve a spot on the map. Anyway, if your region has not been online since a long period of time, we may move your region so new residents can reserve a spot near the continent.
How many primitives do I get if I host my region on my own computer/server ?
There is not really a technical limit. But this will depend on the machine performances you host your regions on.
What information/data is stored on my computer with New World Studio ?
New World Studio only stores your region contents like primitives and scripts running and terrain. Assets are centralized on our servers which make them accessible even when your region is offline.
Where does New World Studio come from ?
New World Studio is the new name for OpenSim Made Easy. New World Studio is a software we developped for New World Grid residents wishing to host virtual land for free principally at home. It’s easier to use and configure compared to a classic OpenSimulator distribution. Basically, you just have to reserve a region on the web map, run New World Studio, eventually perform a connectivity test and an automatic router configuration and it’s up and running in seconds ! There are still router limitations which make New World Studio unable to configure all your network automatically.
Can I rent a region from New World Grid ?
Yes. You can rent virtual land from New World Grid, especially if you wish a more powerful region or you can’t run a New World Studio region succesfully. It’s also a great way to contibute to maintaining our grid servers running !

Can I have a region moved ?
Yes, you just need to write a support ticket.
Can I have a region deleted ?
Yes, you just need to write a support ticket or use the in-world panel on the Welcome region.
What rights go I get on a region ?
You get full rights on your regions. Anyway, you must respect objets permissions and intellectual property in all cases.
Why do the main land region and private region have a different primitive limit ?
This is indicative prim limits. Real limits will depend on many factors, principally the power of the hosting machine.
Is there a support group I can join for New World Grid ?
Yes, feel free to join the New World Grid Residents groups.
