The New World is 3D Virtual World built on OpenSim OpenSource technology ! Come and join us !

New World Grid’s projects

New World Grid is doing quite well and new projects are emerging. For about one month, the virtual world has entered a transient period that will lead to a next step towards maturity. By the end of 2009, we want to make one more step towards our initial ambition: to get our grid platform friendly and pertinent, without the inconvenience of a proprietary system like Second Life ®. Obviously, we are not at anytime expecting to achieve a huge audience as our regulatory framework will not be adapted to it. But these aspects do not exclude ambitious, motivated, and enterprising participants, who wish to making OpenSim an innovative and independent tool with an usage to be define in the future.

“The OpenSim Conference, a tool for the future” by the ‘New World Grid’ team at the SL School (Second Life ®)

Our virtual world is continuously looking for new residents with useful skills such as programming, network administration, groups management or also with gifted artistic sensibility (”build” for example). So we want to focus our communication on these specific profiles. Of course we do not forget the others. We are always happy to welcome new “settlers” ready to put their good will at the service of building this new world which is first of all their own. But before we fully open to a settlement, we must strengthen the foundation of ‘New World Grid’ and enhance the technical support.

Thursday 11 June 2009, we will organize a conference at the Ecole SL (Second Life) – French only. I was asked to carry out this event, so naturally I have chosen this place for obvious reasons: the first one is for its audience excellence, both receptive and responsive to creative projects. The SL School also shares many common aspects with ‘New World Grid’: also for the concepts of sharing, mutual aid, free services. It also includes numerous “silent” members frustrated by Second Life ® and its limits, willing to free their imagination with reasonable constraints (particularly financially).

The conference offers a forty minutes presentation, which includes the following topics:
Presentation of the ‘OpenSim’ “concept”, by LeoMaxx Sautereau (10 minutes)
The technical and creative possibilities offered by OpenSim, by Olish Yalin (10-15 minutes)
The community aspect in ‘New World’ Grid ,by Calice Janus (5 minutes)
The proposed reorganization of the Mainland, by Calice Janus (5 minutes)
New World Grid resident testimonials, by Eden Cat and / or Kijn Eizua (5-10 minutes)

Restructuring of the Mainland – You will be the architects!

New World Grid is at the stage of development. To democratize it, it must have solid bases to welcome a demanding audience. The newcomer must get at its disposal an overview of the opportunities offered by the platform. To attract the new residents, it is essential to offer them a concise and pragmatic presentation of the advantages available of the metavers. With this in mind the “Mainland” must act as a showcase to promote the project.

The Mainland is a continent made up of several sims that are used to welcome new residents to discover the basics of operating the metavers. It is also used as a common place for residents already settled.

The current Mainland is not functional enough to comply with the contract of host region. We must therefore find ways to redevelop it into a fully alive platform. The new resident will find the basic needs for the assessment of the tool and its features. In a single word: to charm it.

The ‘New World Grid’ lacks the arms and it is essential to fish out to enrich his team. Also a contest will be launched in June in which participants will be invited to build the most beautiful sim related to one of the themes identified by the team of ‘New World Grid’ (art, freebies, garden … etc.). Not only the players of Second Life ® will be sought, but also players from other opensims, even other metavers may be involved. We are seeking to ensure that the new mainland will have positive effects:

• A mediatic push
• An overview of opportunities for OpenSim
• Attracting new residents with gifted skills, particularly technical and managerial ones.

The jury will be chosen outside ‘New World Grid’ including people who do not know at all of any virtual worlds and who will be the best to test the sims (expected to welcome or offer them a service). The arrangements are still being under development. We will release all the details of this contest in the coming weeks.
