The New World is 3D Virtual World built on OpenSim OpenSource technology ! Come and join us !
In the previous article, we announced the evolution of New World Studio. We are currently finalizing the last tests and bug fixes before releasing it under the GNU GPL v2 license.
This new generation of the software is an independant graphical interface allowing to create and control an OpenSimulator-based 3D environment in the easiest way. It is possible to use it locally for development or testing, or use it as a private virtual environment published on the internet in a click.
New World Studio is based on many open source software packages :
BOINC is a software developped by the University of California at Berkely allowing to do volunteer comuting. It uses the unused resources of your computer or server when the OpenSim simulator is idle, so you can contribute to medical and scientific research. Bundled with New World Studio, it is possible to activate it as an option to start it transparently and without configuration. We already adopted volunteer computing on all the servers of New World Grid (except critical services) when simulators are idle, and without any performance degradation of OpenSimulator.
Here are the most useful features of New World Studio :
Finally, here’s a preview video. We’ll publish detailed tutorials soon.
